The measurements

These are our published figures for this piece, converted to centimetres alongside. Measure your own space before ordering: 77.8 by 40.6 inches is the floor it needs, and 42.3 inches is how far up it goes.

What it takes out of the room

The piece itself takes 21.9 square feet. Nobody uses furniture at its own edge, so plan for the space you stand in: leave two feet clear on each side and this piece asks for about 45.7 square feet.

In a ten by ten room, which is 100 square feet, that leaves roughly 54.3 square feet for everything else. At 42.3 inches tall it sits below most window sills, so it can usually go under one.

Our room fit calculator does this arithmetic for any room size you type in.

The mattress it takes

It takes a Twin mattress, which you buy separately.

The frame carries the mattress directly, so you skip the box spring.

What it is rated to carry

The specification gives 350 lbs. Three things are worth knowing about a figure like that before you weigh anyone against it.

  • The mattress is part of the load. A capacity covers everything the frame holds, and a heavy mattress can take a real share of it before a person gets in.
  • It describes resting weight. Published capacities are static figures. Children climb and jump, and that is a different kind of load than lying still.
  • Spread beats point loading. The figure assumes weight spread across the surface, not concentrated on one corner.

What it is made of

Named in this piece's own specification:

  • Steel. The load-bearing part, and what lets a frame carry a sleeper without a heavy timber structure.

This is the material list for this item.

What it holds

6 drawers. Keep the heaviest things in the bottom drawer.

The piece states 2 shelf positions.

Our storage arithmetic works out what a given number of drawers actually swallows, using the published sizes across the range.

Power and lighting

It carries LED strip lighting, run from a remote. Strip lighting decorates rather than lights a task: it will not light a book at the top bunk.

Safety, and what the rule actually says

This piece's specification names guardrails, published at 15 inches high.

A federal standard covers bunk beds, and few pieces of furniture carry one. The CPSC sets the requirements. A bed counts as a bunk bed once its mattress foundation sits more than 30 inches above the floor. The upper bunk needs two guardrails at least, one of them on each side, and their tops stand at least 5 inches above the mattress. On the open side, the gap between a guardrail end and the nearest bed end stops at 15 inches.

Those numbers are why mattress thickness matters on a bunk: a thick mattress lifts the sleeping surface and steals the 5 inches the rule asks for.

This page is general information, not a substitute for the assembly instructions and safety labels supplied with a product. Follow the manufacturer's instructions, and where a child is involved follow the age guidance printed on the product itself. Putting it together

It arrives flat and you build it at home. Printed instructions come in the box.

The tools needed are included in the box. Bunk and loft frames are built standing up and the upper structure is awkward to hold alone, so a second pair of hands is worth arranging.

Build time depends on the piece and on the second pair of hands. Our assembly guide covers what the specifications across the range do say.

Measuring before you order

You buy furniture for a tight room by the inch, and a photograph tells you nothing about the clearance left over. Our guides work out the footprint, the ceiling a top bunk needs and the load a frame carries.
